My name is Colton LaMar Calhoun. I was born 11-13-84 in a small farming town

Hermiston, Oregon. I was born to the proud parents, Floyd and Lecia Calhoun. Both have been great parents and given me unconditional love. The love only known to a boy and his proud parents.

 I grew up on a small horse ranch hearing right from wrong since I can remember, and how to treat others with respect and love. Over the course of 19 years I grew into a fine young man. People told me a young man that stood for a better world. A man that wanted to join the service and fight for all kids freedoms. But all those life long dreams were destroyed in the blink of an eye on October 30, 2003.

I was sound asleep at my appartment when at 2:30 in the morning the Stanfield Police knocked on my door and woke me up. I let them in without any problem and asked them what I could do for them. That is when they told me I was under arrest for the rape of Nicole Barnes of Hermiston, Oregon. A female I had dumped 2 months earlier for her best friend. The same best friend that would set up in front of the court and lie for her friend. The same one that today wants to help set me free from the lies she helped with.

You might be thinking, how can all this be? How could the legal system screw up so bad and allow a kid to go to prison for a hateful crime that was never committed. Well that question and others has given me more night mares then I'll ever let onto. First I had to break down my whole case and find out where the jury went wrong. Then there right in front of my face it was. My California lawyer Kristine Burke. The same lawyer that was fired from another firm less than a year before my trial. The same lawyer that didn't call my key witnesses to testify . The very lawyer that wouldn't let me testify myself, yes no lie. I wanted to let the jury to see me , hear me, and understand me. She just said no don't worry you don't have to. I know how dumb of me, how stupid. I was only a kid ,so scared, so afraid, I really thought she had my best interest at heart.

Oh did I pay the biggest price for that misjudgement. It has cost me 4 years already and unless I show the state of Oregon the real truth it will cost me 4 more.

But with the help of all you reading this, and the help of my great lawyer and friend Charles Simmons I am ready to show the world the real truth.

Will you help by signing my petition? Our laws must be changed. Rape is a horrendous crime and just punishment for those who commit this crime should be severe. Unfortunately the law does not protect the accused from vindictive women. There are others like myself that have suffered and continue to suffer because the law does not require any proof that a crime has actually occured. There is no requirment for DNA, a hospital report, anything to verify the crime. At present any woman can make a claim she was raped at some point in the past and the DA'S can file on it and the accused is now under the gun to try to proove his innocence. How many lives must be ruined before we level the judicial system for all?.
